Tania, Cambria and Adrienne are getting ready to run a pretty different road race this Sunday, September 28 called the Tarfest Miracle Mile Grand Prix 5k and Mile Road Race. The race, held at the LA County Museum of Art, features a 5k at 9 am and a mile at 10 am – two races, one morning. Adrienne coming off a solid performance at UC Riverside is looking for a fast race on the roads. Cambria will be racing for the first time since her win over the bridge on Labor Day and this will be Tania’s debut performance for the fall. She’s looking forward to her first race with a few weeks of solid training under her belt.
There will be cash awards for the top three with the fastest combined times in both races. The Janes look forward to running against some of the top runners in the area. To find out more about the day of races, click here.

Leading the way for the Janes was Sissel coming in 55th place with a time of 18:07. Adrienne (70th, 18:16), Jenna (77th, 18:23), Kimmy (86th, 18:31), Kirsten (92nd, 18:42) and Liz (174th, 19:48) followed up behind Sissel to grab the 11th overall team place with 368 points.
Jacky Kipwambok from Azusa Pacific won the race in a time of 16:29 and UC Riverside upset BYU for the team title with 89 points to BYU’s 98 points.
In the men’s race, Liz’s husband and the Jane’s cheering squad, Tom, running for the Bowerman Athletic Club, came in 300th place running the 8000 meter course in 30:04 in a loaded and crowded field. Four Janes competed this past weekend in Brentwood at the Kickin’ Cancer 5k. The race was an out and back up and down San Vicente Boulevard. The Janes took second through fifth place in the woman’s division with Kirsten, Sissel, Jenna Dee and Amanda respectively (photo left, taken by Angela Daves Haley). Grace Padilla was the first woman to cross the line. There was no chip timing so there were no official results.

Ally Estess while vacationing in the Bay Area over the weekend decided that while she was there, she’d open her cross country season running the USATF’s Pacific Association’s 23rd Annual Golden Gate Park Open held at Golden Gate Park yesterday on September 12th. She was able to run the same four mile course that the USATF Pacific Association Regional meet is run over and where the Janes will be running in November. Right before the race, it was doubtful that it would even go off when a unexpected thunder, lightning and rain storm blew through just long enough to muddy up the course. Ally finished in 12th place in a perennially strong field of Pacific Association athletes with a time of 25:14. Her time was very close to her end of year mark over the same course in good conditions so the Janes are eager to see what a great season she’ll have with such a great start. Aggies Club member, Linda Somers-Smith, at the age of 48, ran a remarkable time of 22:58 to win.
Official results have yet to be posted but Ally reported back with these marks:
1 22:58 Linda Somers-Smith (Aggies) 48y
2 23:42 Rachel Booth (Penn District) 28y
3 24:08 Annie Bersnagal (Pennisula) 26y
4 24:42 Yiou Wang (Tampala)
5 24:50 Megan Daly (Impala)
6 24:51 Lindsey Gardena (Aggies)
7 24:52 Mafalis (Penninsula)
8 24:57 Heather Campbell (West Valley)
9 25:01 Nicole Gottlieb (Impala)
10 25:06 Liz DeRago (Aggies)
11 25:09 Jennifer Bretan (Tampala)
12 25:14 Allyson Estess (Janes)
