Studette Barbara Parker came in 4th place at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games against a stellar field PR’ing in her debut 3000 of the
year running 8:52.90. Barbara led through the first 2k before Kalkidan Gezahegn and Genzebe Dibaba and then eventually Shannon Rowbury passed her in the final 1k. Sara Hall passed Barbara but Barbara prevailed and passed Sara back to finish in her final spot of fourth place. Gezahegn from Ethiopia was the eventual winner running 8:46.1. Barbara Parker is donning the Janes uniform in her first race as a Jane tonight in the prestigious Reebok Boston Indoor Games. She’ll be racing in the 3000 against elites such as Olympian Shannon Rowbury (PR of 4:00.33 in the 1500) , Sara Hall (PR of 4:08.99 in the 1500 and came in 2nd at last week’s Millrose Games mile at 4:31.48), former FSU teammate Hannah England (PR of 4:05.87 in the 1500 and 1:59 in the 800 and just won last week’s Millrose Games mile in 4:31.48), Tirunesh Dibaba’s younger sister Genzebe Dibaba and Christian Wurth-Thomas (PR of 3:59.98 in the 1500). Barbara thinks it will take an 8:40-8:50 type effort to win this race. Her race goes off at 6:20 EST but will not be televised until Sunday, Feb 7 from 2p-4p EST on ESPN2.

A team of five Janes will race tomorrow at the Redondo Super Bowl Sunday 10k in one of the USATF Southern California 10k Championships. Individual as well as team honors are at stake here. The race will go off at 8:30 starting down in Redondo Beach in the King Harbor area. Come down and cheer us on!!

A team five Janes went out last Saturday and competed against some strong high school teams in the local Parlauf Relays. Adrienne, Cambria, Tiffany, Kevyn and Kirsten ran a respectable third place in their race and an overall fourth place finish. Redondo Union defended their title with a time of 21:40.5. Long Beach Wilson followed with a time of 21:56.8 and the Janes third with a time of 22:22.4. In the second heat of the girls’ race, the Redondo Union’s B team ran 22:05.7 to knock the Janes down to fourth place. Each year the Parlauf Relays are a fun way to have some fun with preseason fitness and mix it up with distance and sprint squads alike.
