She got out quickly and wasn’t contested at all during the wet race.”The course had a lot of turns and hairpin turns and I went down the wrong tunnel for a bit before I realized I was going the wrong way, but it was fun to get the win. Despite blustery, cold and rainy weather, Emily Mitchell was the 13th woman overall and ran a PR of 2:56.14 at the Los Angeles Marathon this morning. And, despite being pushed down and skinning her knee at the start and having to make a few pit stops, she ran great. A few of the Janes – Tania, Jenna and Cambria – ran large portions of the marathon with Emily. Emily said post race, “My quads completely cramped at the end but I could not have done it without my teammates’ help.”
The course starts downtown and finishes by the Santa Monica pier. Buzunesh Deba, the first Ethiopian woman’s winner in the LA Marathon, won the women’s division in 2:26:34. American Amy Hastings was second in 2:27:03 in her marathon debut having led the race much of the way during the middle part of the marathon only to have Deba pull away from her at the 22 mile mark.
