Sarah races the streets of Santa Monica

And in another part of the state on a busy and successful weekend for the Janes, Sarah Montez represented at the Santa Monica Classic this morning. Sarah was the first women in the 5k running 18:36.4. The course starts in Venice and ends up at the Santa Monica Pier after running most of the race on Ocean Avenue. It’s a deceivingly difficult course with long, slightly uphill portions of the course.

Tania runs the 100th Annual Bay to Breakers!

Tania truckin' up Hayes Street

Tania Fischer was invited at the last minute to run in the 100th annual Bay to Breakers 12k road race so she took up the offer. But before she boarded a plane yesterday, she had to coach her Santa Monica athletes at CIF prelims at Trabuco Hills High School.

Tania ran 44:47, a 6:01 per mile average and finished 12th overall in the elite division and 1st overall in the masters division over the 7.46 mile course. From sea level at the Embarcadero, where the start of the race is, the course rises steeply along the Hayes Street Hill. Around the 2.5-mile mark runners climb an 11.15% grade between Fillmore Street and Steiner Street. The remainder of the course gradually flows downhill alongside the Panhandle through Golden Park to the Finish Line at the Great Highway at the beautiful Ocean Beach. The photo at the right (thanks Sissel!) shows Tania climbing the famous Hayes Street Hill this morning, the steepest point of the race.

Emily take the Palos Verdes Half Marathon

Em in the final mile of the race!

Emily Mitchell blazed a 1:24.05 for first overall woman at the Palos Verdes half marathon in Palos Verdes yesterday. The course, which was changed from the course from last year, was a hilly loop course which took you through the rolling hills of Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates. The race started and finished at the beautiful Terranea Resort and the weather was perfect for a long race – cool and overcast. Emily is training for a marathon next month so this race was a great progress report where she ran a 6:25 average over the course.

Kirsten’s time was a 41 second improvement from her last 5,000 a month ago and Colleen’s was a 20 second improvement.

Cambria then ran in the second heat finishing 4th in a time of 18:06. Cambria was hoping to go a few seconds faster but she was happy overall with her first track race back in over a year.
