Our team is proud to announce that one of our founding members and toughest teammates, Kirsten Leetch is now the new American record holder in the 10,000 meters for Master’s, ages 50+! In a gutsy, strategic race at the Mt.SAC Relays meet, Kirsten took on a full field of collegiate athletes, and battled her way throughout the race to best a 14-year old record by 12 seconds, crossing the line in 37:04.87. Kirsten, a former All-American during her years at Cal Berkeley, is no stranger to setting records in the 10k, having set her school’s record (32:40) in this same event, and she now adds another accolade to her impressive race resume. Of her race, Kirsten said, “everything just fell into place for me” as she clicked off seemingly easy laps at just under 6-minute mile pace, but we know how hard she’s worked toward this goal, and how many miles she’s logged in training, which only make this accomplishment that much more rewarding. Congratulations on a standout race, Kirsten; your tenacity in daily training and on the track this weekend deserves recognition! Your teammates could not be more proud of you!
