On Mother’s Day, May 11 th , the Janes gathered for the inaugural Janes Mile!
I had never raced a road mile before, but I didn’t have time to be nervous. As runners arrived to pick up their bibs, everyone was in a celebratory mood, ready to run hard and have fun.

After jogging my warm-up with some new friends, I lined up on at the start of the open mile having forgotten all about the pre-race jitters.

The race itself was a blast! The course is an out and back and opens with a slight downhill that you then climb at the final stretch of the race. With cheerleaders cheering at the halfway, and lots of Janes along the course, I almost couldn’t believe it had gone by so quick when I reached the finish.

Then it was time to watch the Masters runners crush their race and cheer on the Janes racing in that division! Next came the Youth race, which was won in a blistering 5:38!!

Finally, all the runners congregated to watch the Elite women take off. I loved that since the course is an out and back, spectators got to watch the start and finish of each race.

After awards were handed out to the top three in each division, it was time to head home! I had so much celebrating women’s running and racing with my teammates. I can’t wait for next year!
