SoCal Cross Country Series Opener at Mt SAC

Kirsten Leetch was the lone Jane running the first of a few races at Mt SAC in the cross country grand prix series started by the Southern California USATF Association. Kirsten ran 17:50 over the historic, nationally known and challenging 2.88 mile cross country course, finishing first for both open runners and masters. As a senior in high school, Kirsten broke the course record running 17:17 – a record that held for eight years. “I have always loved this course. I love the different elements with the flat first mile, tough hills, switchbacks and down hills and the fact that you have to always be thinking while running it. It was great to get back on the course again after so many years,” Kirsten said post race.

The Mt SAC Freedom Race was the first race in the newly created, USATF Southern California Association Cross Country Racing Series. There will be four races in different locations in Southern California – Los Angeles/Orange County region that will culminate at the Southern California Championships on November 13th to be held at Central Park in Huntington Beach.
