Tania Third at Cal Poly

TaniaTania was the sole Jane competing at the long-standing Cal Poly SLO Invitational this past Saturday at the Fairbanks Cross Country Course on SLO. On a hot and dry morning, Tania’s race went out led by two Cal Poly athletes who took it out fast. Tania was in the chase pack with a few Cal Poly and UCLA athletes by the mile mark. At around the mile and a half point, Tania found herself in fifth place after the hill and saw Shannon Murakami, the eventual winner, take up chase on the first two Cal Poly gals who she caught and rolled past by the two mile mark. Tania responded by attacking herself and chasing after with the switchbacks left to go on the course. Tania found herself catching one of the Cal Poly gals that went out quick to take over the number three spot with a furious kick to the finish. Shannon ran 18:01.1, Kayleigh Tyerman from Cal Poly came in second running 18:08.1 and Tania ran 18:33.9 for the third position. The heat definitely took its toll on the athletes where many ran slower than the previous year. For complete results, click here.
